Nepal: 34 Arrested In A Massive Crackdown On Illegal Gambling

Police in Pokhara, the tourist city of Nepal, launched a massive crackdown on illegal gambling which saw the arrest of 34 suspects in two days.

The local reports confirm that the raids were carried out in parts of the city and along with the arrests police also seized NPR 2,21,990 ($2,200) in cash from the gamblers.

The weekend drive against gambling was supervised by the Police Inspector Ganesh Subedi who confirmed that raids in Pokhara metropolis 5, 8, 32 and 16.

Gambling is legal in Nepal as it hosts about 11 casinos and is a local gambling hub for players from China and India.

However, it hasn’t been a smooth ride for the casino gambling industry in Nepal. The government has clamped down on gambling from time to time.

Recently Nepal adopted new and relaxed laws on gambling following which Silver Heritage Group was the first to open a casino in the Himalayan country.

The largest gambling city in Nepal is Kathmandu with 8 gambling facilities, 126 tables games, 375 gaming, slot, and video poker machines.
