An ESPN, report reveals that New Jersey took more in sports bets than any other state including Nevada.
According to the figures released by the state gaming control board, Jersey bookmakers took in $318.9 million in sports bets in May.
New Jersey is amongst the first US states to launch sports betting operation after the US Supreme Court legalized sports betting operations, earlier last year.
Talking to ESPN, former New Jersey State Sen. Raymond Lesniak said that he was not surprised at all.
“I’m not surprised at all. I’ve been saying all along that the Northeast and New Jersey is a hotbed of sports activity. We love our sports. We are well on our way, in overall gaming, to becoming the Las Vegas of the East Coast.”
New York is amongst the latest to join the club. Sorts gambling has been recently legalized in New York; however, the players can only place bets at established gambling establishments.
Mobile betting is yet to be legalized in New York. The state is poised to launch sports betting at casinos at the earliest following the new legislation.
