NHL strikes deal with casino operator to share data for sports betting
NHL is following the NBA’s lead by partnering with MGM resorts international and providing the company with data for use in sports betting. Gary Bettman announced the agreement last week. The Las Vegas based casino giant is the league’s first official sports betting partner.
It is a part of the agreement that, MGM gain access to proprietary NHL data that could eventually include puck and player tracking information. Scott Butera MGM executive and NHL chief revenue officer Keith Wachtel tell the press that the aim is to provide unique gambling opportunities, including free games to those in states, where sports betting is not legal yet.
They are not getting any cut of profit from this (NHL). Other Casino Operators and MGM are moving aggressively to be able to capitalize on the U.S. Sports betting market. MGM has made some magnificent moves, including a multilayer deal with the NBA and WNBA- the first major sports league to strike an arrangement with the gambling company.
Pennsylvania does not have sports betting yet, though license were granted to Parx and Hollywood Casinos in early October.
