Nine Chinese Nationals Arrested In Bangkok For Alleged Involvement In Illegal Online Gambling

Bangkok’s immigration police have confirmed the arrest of nine Chinese nationals for their alleged involvement in facilitating illegal online gambling. The accused were found to be making illegal transactions for online gamblers in China and were arrested from two apartments in Bangkok’s Phraram 9.

Col Kritmongkut Buranaphakdee, an inspector at the Immigration Police Bureau, said that the police had reports about suspicious activities of the alleged Chinese nationals as they never left their apartment rooms in Bangkok – unusual for tourists.

Following the report of suspicious behavior, a police team raided the apartment. The police seized the mobile phone of the Chinese nationals and entered the apartment before they could turn off the laptops and computers in the studio.

The police seized five computers which were being used to make online transactions related to gambling. While seven were arrested from one apartment, two were arrested from the other which was adjacent to the first.

The immigration authorities said that the arrested suspects admitted to making online transactions to the tune of 150,000 Bhat per month for a businessperson in China.

The suspects earned money in digital currencies as well as their their clients for whom the men made online transactions to convert the digital token in Yuan.

The nine arrested will soon be deported and are now blacklisted from visiting Thailand. Earlier this week, Vietnam deported 35 Chinese nationals for their involvement with illegal gambling operations in the country.
