Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort has confirmed an increase in hourly wages of employees who don’t receive tips. The gambling operator announced an increase of hourly wage from $9.75 an hour to $13. The new wage rates will be effective from the month-end.
The casino operator also said that the employees who receive tips will have their minimum wage increased to $6 an hour.
Jennifer Hoyt, a spokeswoman at the gambling facility said that at present, the hourly wages are $2.76 an hour for cocktail servers on the racetrack side and $5.50 an hour for casino dealers.
The change in the minimum wage policy would benefit about 970 full-time employees.
The casino resort is undergoing a $100 million expansion. The expansion plan includes developing a 28,000-square-foot casino floor, a 200-room, seven-story luxury hotel, and a 14,000-square-foot event center.
“Oaklawn’s success is because of our team members,” Oaklawn President Louis Cella said in a news release “And, we are making this change to show that investing in our employees is just as important as the investment we’re making in our facility and its expansion.”
Earlier this year in July, the first legal sports bet was placed at the Oaklawn gambling facility. SBTech is the gaming technology firm which has partnered with the Oaklawn Racing to help them operate sports betting facility at the venue.
