Only Three Contenders For A Japanese Casino License In The Osaka Prefecture

While a Japanese casino license is the “hot pursuit” of all top gambling operators from across the globe, Osaka prefecture has contenders down from seven to three.

Osaka was the first to launch the “Request For Proposal” (RFP) process following which it also got successful submissions and subsequently announced the names of the gambling operators seeking a casino license.The five companies who applied for an Osaka casino license are Las Vegas Sands, Wynn Resorts, MGM Resorts, Melco Resorts, and Genting Singapore. Osaka confirmed their participation. Names of two gambling operators were not revealed as they had requested anonymity.

MGM Resorts International, Genting Singapore, and Galaxy Entertainment Group are in the race for a casino license in Osaka.

Earlier this week, Melco released its “Yokohama First” strategy as a part of its plan to tap into the newly regulated Japanese casino gambling industry. The gambling operator said that they are no longer pursuing a casino license in Osaka.

Caesars Entertainment has already pulled itself from the race for a Japanese casino license.

Last month, US-based Las Vegas Sands Corp. confirmed that they are no longer pursuing an integrated casino license in the Osaka prefecture. Vegas Sands Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sheldon Adelson has said that they think that an investment in Tokyo or Yokohama gives them the best opportunity.

Yokohama, Osaka, Wakayama, and Nagasaki are contending to host a casino in Japan.
