Canada – A casino complex in Ontario; Casino Rama, has been evacuated amid a bomb scare following an anonymous threat that there was a bomb on-site.
Casino Rama, operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Limited, is a large casino, hotel and entertainment complex located in the town of Rama, Ontario on the reserve land of the Chippewas of Rama First Nation.
The establishment confirmed that a threat was made in the mid afternoon of Wednesday and the local police were investigating.
Gateway Casinos and Entertainment Limited’s communications and public affairs director Rob Mitchell commented on the news:
“The entire site has been evacuated now and is in lock-down and is currently under investigation by the Ontario Provincial Police.”
“For the most part, all our employees have been sent home. There are some senior staff on site working with the OPP as they conduct their investigation. We’re in the process of trying to figure out what’s going on and when this facility will be safe and when we’ll get the all clear from the OPP [Ontario Provincial Police].”
Casino Rama, jointly owned by the Chippewas of Rama First Nation and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, was the victim of a cyber attack 3 years ago with financial and personal information stolen from the company’s records.
Rob Mitchell elaborated on the firm’s concerns:
“Right now, we’re most concerned about the safety of everyone in the area, surrounding the facility and making sure our guests are looked after and that they’re evacuated and that our staff are looked after.”
