Doug’s Ford Government has recently announced a deal to allow 2 casinos which are just 7 kms apart from each other in a bid to satisfy municipalities to the east of Toronto that have a long and bitter fight over the future of gambling in that particular region.
The province has revealed that an agreement in principle has been reached to keep open the casino of Ajax Downs, it requires a rethinking of rules by the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. This Ajax Downs casino has to compete with a planned megacasino complex in their neighbours.
“People Sometimes like to have different Entertainment choices and so why couldn’t there be two facilities operating and run by the operator? Said Rod Philips, who is the MPP for Ajax And Environment Minister.
Both the casinos will be now operated by the Vancouver based Great Canadian Gaming Corp. Which got a contract from the OLG to run their facilities in the Toronto Area.
“The Bottom line of the government is maximizing revenue to the provincial government and i would think that the government would be persuaded by the mix that gives the provincial government the maximum revenue”, he said.
Mayor Dave Ryan said he was expecting such a move after promises during the spring election campaign from Mr. Philips, a former Chief Executive of OLG.
Ajax Downs has recently said, it had “Created a new gaming zone in the GTA,”.
