Quezon City Sets New Ordinance For Casinos With Plans To Charge Fees From Locals

Bloomberry Resorts Corp is now on a high since it can set up the casino resort in the Quezon City in the Philippines. However, the new ordinance has laid down fresh regulations and brought in high entrance fees to the locals.

However, here is the catch since the city council expects the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp, or Pagcor, the country’s casino regulatory board to oppose this move as per the news report by Philippine Daily Inquirer newspaper.

The mayor, Ms. Joy Belmonte has also said that the Pagcor is planning to seek a “temporary restraining order” to this ordinance.

More about the Bloomberry Resorts and its Proposed Resort

Bloomberry has stated that it will continue the branding for the casino as with the Bloomberry Resorts’ existing casinos in Metro Manila, Solaire Resort and Casino at Entertainment City. Last month, two of the subsidiaries of Bloomberry Resorts has signed 10-year loan worth PHP40Billion. This will be put to use in the designing, construction, and development of a gaming and hotel resort in the Quezon City’s Ventis North Complex.

As per the ordinance now, the local Philippine citizens will need to pay a pretty high fee to play. This has already ruffled a few feathers and stirred debate across the Philippines.

Why is This Clause in Place?

The ordinance has added these clauses of high fees for the locals to enter the casinos following the trend prevalent in Singapore. In order to visit any of the state’s casinos in Resorts World Sentosa or in Marina Bay Sands, permanent citizens have to pay a daily fee or annual fees.

Mayor Joy Belmonte has stated that it is now that one gets to see in the courts if the Pagcor’s charter takes the lead or the local government code. As per the country’s Presidential Decree No. 1869, Pagcor has the rights to “formulate regulatory activities for gaming.”

As per the mayor Ms. Belmonte, with the Bloomberry Resort coming up with the casino, one might see a huge influx of locals. In order to protect the locals from addiction or irresponsible gambling, this ordinance has put forth this preventative clause. The high fee for the locals has been in compliance with the law, which wants the government to look after the welfare of the people.

Will the setting up of the new resort happen with high fees finally or will the court be lenient- only time will tell.

Please wait...
