Rhode Island Records Increased Sports Betting Revenue For September

Sports Betting market in Rhode Islands has delivered a strong performance for September. The sports betting revenue for the month tripled month-on-month to $2.5 million.

According to the figures released, the state’s sports gambling market revenue was up nearly threefold with retail sports gambling revenue surging and mobile sports betting revenue going up.

In the retail betting sector, a total handle of $18.9m was recorded at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln and Twin River Tiverton site. The figure represented a 177.7% increase from the total retail spend of $10.6m in August.

The twin river lincoln casino grossed $1.6m in land-based revenue, up from $607,836 in August.

The mobile sports betting was launched on September 4. For the month, mobile sports betting revenue was $512,740 and total wagers were recorded $3.3m in September.

Rhode Island’s casino gambling industry has been embroiled in controversies following the Governor’s decision to extend the license of IGT.

Earlier in the week, Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo rubbished the claims by Twin River executives that they were threatened with regulatory purging if the casino gambling operator stood with a proposal against the 20-year lottery contract extension for International Game Technology.

Commenting on the allegations, Gov. Raimondo said that there is “no merit” in such claims.

Rhode Island’s Governor Gina Raimondo has been under a lot of flak for single-handedly extending the contract with IGT for another 20 years.

She had been vociferously criticized by lawmakers and also from industry stakeholders for granting a billion-dollar contract without going into any competitive bidding process.
