Gaming technology and services provider, Scientific Games Corporation (SGMS) has inked a partnership deal with the Dutch Lottery, Nederlandse Loterij (NLO).
Scientific games confirmed that they would be providing the state-owned Lottery with digital sports betting solutions for both mobile and desktop devices.
The Netherlands is already in the process of formulating rules and regulations for the upcoming liberalized remote gambling market. It is expected that the Dutch online gambling market would be launched by 2021.
Nederlandse Loterij (NLO), also has the sports gambling monopoly in the country.
SGMS digital sportsbook and platform VP Keith O’Loughlin said sports betting was “currently positioned at the core of global growth for the lottery and gaming industry” and called OpenSports “a natural fit” for NLO.
The gambling market in the Netherlands has been continuously expanding. According to recent figures released by the state-run Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek (CBS), the gambling market in the Netherlands has grown by approximately 11 percent since 2015 when the survey was last conducted.
While the total consumer spending on gambling in the Netherlands in 2018 was €2.5 billion. The total gambling revenue was up 11 percent from 2015 to €2.05 billion.
The number of jobs in the gambling sector has also grown over the years. The industry employed 8,300 locals in 2017, which was up 11 percent from 2014 figures.
