Senator Backs Boracay Casino Ban
Senator Joel Villanueva is urging the president Duterte to officially order the ban on Casinos in Borcacy Island.
The Senator, had made the appeal as he supported the Department of Tourism (DOT) move for a “no-casino” policy in the world famous attraction, which recently reopened after six months of rehabilitation.
“The White sand Beaches of Boracay are already a perfect sight to see and we believe that building casinos in the island is unnecessary,” Villanueva said in a statement.
“We support the tourist department in its call for the president to issue an executive order that will permanently ban gambling in Borcay,” he added.
“Gambling promotes Laziness which only depends on a game of chance. This is a completely opposite of what we intended to teach our young people,” he said.
“The government therefore should promote sustainable tourism, instead of gambling to attract more tourists to our country,” he appealed.
DOT secretary, Bernadette Romulpuyat sought the opinion of the Department of Justice on the possible repercussion of the revocation of Casino license in the island.
The EO, Guevarra noted on the other hand, should include provisions concerning the investments of Casino operators which could be affected by the possible revocation of provisional license.
