Chief of SkyBet, one of the UK’s most popular online betting company, has raised concerns about lack of treatment centers for gambling addicts in the Uk. He also charged the overall gambling industry to be not very helpful to the cause of problem gambling.
Talking to the BBC, Mr. Flint said that the gambling industry had not contributed enough to address the issue of problem gambling and also urged that the gambling operators focus on their social responsibility and also invest in creating a network focussed on gambling treatment.
However, the comments have been criticized as activists and organizations working for creating awareness about gambling addiction said that Mr. Flint was a hypocrite because it is his company that is at the forefront of promoting gambling and occupying a significant share of the betting market.
Skybet was valued at £3 billion at the end of 2018. The previous year, the company was also slapped with a massive £1-million fine for its failures to protect vulnerable customers.
While the online gambling market is expanding in the UK, there have been concerns about rising gambling addiction. In its new strategy on gambling, the UK gambling commission has said that they would be treating gambling as a disease.
The Gambling Commission has also introduced a series of measures including mandatory verification to curb underage betting.
