Spectacle Entertainment has provided a timeline for the development of the Gary casino to the city’s Plan Commission.
The Indiana-based casino developer has partnered with Hard Rock International to develop a $400 million casino resort as Spectacle’s Majestic Star riverboat casinos in Gary is being replaced by a land-based casino.
The company has said that it would be developing the Gary casino in two phases.
John Keeler, Vice President and General Counsel of Spectacle, said that instead of opening all the amenities planned for the complex simultaneously, they have decided to roll out those in phases, starting with the casino.
Keeler has reportedly said that they “originally envisioned to do that all in one fell swoop, but then along came Illinois and that sort of set us back on our heels.”
Earlier, last month Illinois Gov. J.B Pritzker signed a massive gambling expansion bill allowing for six different casinos in the state. The Illinois casinos could give a tough competition to Indiana’s Gary casino.
Spectacle has told the city’s Plan Commission that they would have the casino ready by December 2020. However, the parking and the proposed hotel would take two to three years to complete.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Gary will feature the second largest casino in the region. It will also have, a sportsbook, food and beverage outlets, including a Hard Rock Cafe, and a Hard Rock Live music performance venue.
