Sports Wagering is now officially a thing in New Mexico. It will be from Oct 16, when Santa Ana Star Casino and Hotel opens the state’s first legal sports book.
The announcement came on the morning of Tuesday, A Company USBookmaking has said it has partnered with Santa Ana Pueblo to install a full service sports book that will allow all the gamblers to be able to bet on everything from the NFL and NASCAR to college sports and even minor league baseball.
“There will be actions taken on the colleges, so the university of New Mexico, New Mexico State – those will be available to wager” said John Salerno director of operating of USBookmaking.
“You can get the same thing there as you would at any Las Vegas Sports Book,” Salerno said, adding his company has been working with Santa Ana to train their staffs on how to write tickets, take wagers and pay off winners.
The U.S. Supreme Court struck down the Professional and Amateur sports protection act that mainly prohibited commercial sports betting in most states. After this decision of Supreme Court, many states began to explore sports wagering possibilities.
“Its zero revenue boost to the state. Zero” Maestas said. “The tribes do not have to give a dime to the state. It doesn’t affect the state coffers at all. It may help tourism”.
“If the state allows anybody else to do Class III Gaming, then the revenue sharing portion of the compact is null and void” said Maestas “And the tribes don’t have to give the state a dime”.
I would rather that bettors bet with a local entity then with all these Internet sites from the Bahamas,” Maestas said.
