Vigo County Voters have finally approved a new casino gambling establishment in the area.
Following the referendum, in large numbers, the voters favored the construction of an inland casino in Terre Haute. According to the experts and locals, the vote was in favor of the economic development of the region.
It is expected that the new gambling establishment would drive tourists and visitors to the area. According to the estimates, about 1.1 million people could visit Terre Haute area annually and the industry could generate about $105 million a year.
“This is a region wide economic development driver and I know all of the surrounding communities are excited about it and I think it’s going to benefit a lot more people than just Vigo County.”
The Indiana Gaming Commission is welcoming developers and operators to make a proposal. The bids for a casino license in Vigo County would be accepted through December 1st.
It is expected that construction could begin in the Spring of 2020.
Earlier in the year, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb officially signed a gambling expansion bill which made sports betting legal in the state.
The bill also provided for a new casino license at Terre Haute in Vigo county for which the minimum bid amount is $25 million and the state may soon start accepting applications for a new casino license.
