Where Would Be The New Rockford Casino Built?

With Gov. J.B Pritzker signing a massive gambling expansion bill in Illinois last month, allowing for six casinos at different locations, the city of Rockford has already started the Request For Proposals (RFP) process.

However, the question remains where would the new casino be located. The zoning officers in Rockford said that the casinos could be built on all commercial zones as it would fall under the sports and recreation category.

Zoning and Land Use administrator Scott Capovilla said: “Based on the use of sports and recreation and participants, I would deem that the casino would fall under that designation. In summary, I would say that type of use would then would be permitted in those three zoning districts.”

Following the announcement of the RFP process, the Hard Rock International has also revealed its plan for a Rockford casino.
While they are yet to make a formal submission, Hard Rock CEO, Jim Allen said that the new gambling establishment would create 1,000 jobs for local contractors and approximately 1,200 full-time jobs.

The Request For Proposals responses is due by 2 p.m. August 16.

In Chicago, the Illinois Gaming Board has announced that they have chosen Vegas-based Union Gaming to conduct a feasibility study. Union Gaming has ninety days to present its report to Pritzker, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, and lawmakers.
